After two weeks of Waiver Wired pickups, we’re going to mix it up and highlight some deeper names to add for the beginning of March. Pretty much all these guys listed are available in 75% or more of Yahoo Leagues, and I’m completely sold that a handful of these guys will make all the difference in your fantasy playoffs.
If you’ve enjoyed all the free content I’ve put out so far, consider subscribing! But more importantly, spread the word so I can continue venturing out on my own.
Delon Wright (25%)- Hardcore fantasy owners already know all about this guy. To the casual fantasy player, Delon is a washed up scrub who can only average eight points per game on a good night. To the veterans out there, what they see is a guy who can get you two steals and a block on any given night which is just as valuable as someone scoring 30 points in a category league.
Over his last seven games, Delon ranks 57th in 9-cat leagues with 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.9 steals, 0.4 blocks and 1.4 triples on 58% from the field and perfect shooting from the line. He did that damage in 25 minutes per game, and he’s logging minutes at PG, SG and SF for the Wizards which gives him multiple paths to solid minutes the rest of the way.
Dennis Smith Jr. (20%)- If you were able to scoop him up after LaMelo’s injury, props to you, although some of you may have already had this “Silly Season Hero” candidate at the back of your roster if you took my advice. While he’s coming off a dud, DSJ has been terrific all season and has regained the explosiveness that made him such an intriguing player coming out of NC State.
DSJ has reached 30 minutes in 10 games so far this season with averages of 11.5 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 0.5 blocks. And that’s with just a 17% usage rate. With LaMelo out of the way, expect to see some monster lines from DSJ the rest of the way. I just wish his games played schedule was a little kinder.
Cam Reddish (21%)- For reasons unknown, Shaedon Sharpe is in the doghouse and it makes absolutely zero sense. The only logical answer is that Billups is playing against him in his hometown fantasy league. Reddish was just a bystander like everyone else on Sunday when Damian Lillard chased Kobe Bryant’s 81-point eruption, but you have to love the minutes we’ve been seeing.
He’s cleared 30+ minutes in three straight, averaging top-50 fantasy numbers of 16.3 points, 3.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.7 triples. Those stats are as inflated as a dozen eggs at the store because Portland has been shorthanded (Dame was coming off a GRUELING All-Star vacation), but it appears as though Cam has at least earned a massive chunk of the wing minutes until they realize Sharpe needs an opportunity.
Isaiah Joe (14%)- Every single year for what seems like half a decade now, a random Thunder player emerges with fantasy value. Remember Moses Brown a couple years ago? That was fun while it lasted.
It’s almost March and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander suddenly feels a tingle in his ankle and abdomen. We’ve seen this story before. SGA is a company man and wants Wembanyama. Who can blame him? Honestly. Joe is poised for big run and has been lights out in his last two with 26.0 points, 5.0 triples, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 turnovers in 31 minutes per. With the greenest of lights, Joe can swing a fantasy matchup by himself if he stays hot from deep.
Austin Reaves- Everyone is looking for the add to make in place of LeBron James. Mo Bamba is a name to watch in case he re-enters the rotation, and Jarred Vanderbilt is the massive prize that you were hopefully already holding onto. As for Reaves, he’s a good bet to get close to 30 minutes for the next couple weeks and the Lakers play four times this week alone. He can play multiple positions, he can handle the ball and he can stretch the floor. He’s exactly what the Lakers need right now.
Reaves has cleared 30+ minutes 14 times this season, averaging 13.2 points, 2.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 1.2 triples. With more usage coming his way, those numbers have room to climb.
Kris Dunn- I was sold on Kris Dunn right after his debut game with the Jazz and the beat writers in Utah were gushing over him as well. If you remember back to last season, Dunn had some head-turning performances with the Blazers and it’s a mystery why it’s taken a team this long to pick him up. He flirted with a triple-double in his second game with the Jazz and is averaging 13.0 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 0.5 blocks and 1.0 triples through two outings.
Danny Ainge is as smart as they come and will look to use this opportunity to turn Dunn into a tradeable asset down the road. With Collin Sexton banged up and likely to be managed down the stretch, Dunn could see massive run with Talen Horton-Tucker shifting to more of an off-ball role (I still think THT has some appeal).
Hamidou Diallo- If you don’t know much about Diallo, he has one of the highest verticals ever recorded at the combine and is an absolute terror in the open floor. While his shot comes and goes, Diallo can play positions 2-4 and is suddenly a reliable contributor for coach Dwane Casey with the Pistons down several players. Diallo is coming off a 23-point game but has been solid for a while now, averaging 14.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.0 triples over the last six. He has one of the strangest stat profiles I’ve ever seen, but he’s a warm body getting minutes on a team that is desperate to improve their lottery odds.
Nassir Little- Oh hey there, Little. It’s been a long time since Little was fantasy relevant but the stroy remains the same. Little is one of the best pound-for-pound athletes in the NBA and it’s not an argument. Hampered by injuries for several years, Little suddenly finds himself as a key contributor for Portland’s laughable frontcourt rotation. I’m sorry Drew Eubanks, but we expect 20/20s from you. Pick it up.
Little went off for 26 points in the game that Dame decided to sleep through, but when the Blazers had most of their rotation Sunday, Little came through with 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a block and three triples. He has the potential to be a Robert Covington lite if the minutes are there and could run away with a starting job.
Keita Bates-Diop- How much longer is this guy going to go unnoticed? At some point we have to acknowledge him I guess. Over his last seven games, KBD is averaging 11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.6 blocks and 0.7 triples in 30.2 minutes per game. I don’t care how low your upside is if you’re going to get this kind of workload on a rebuilding team. Pop obviously loves the guy and his competition is Doug McDermott. I’m sold in deeper leagues.
Charles Bassey- Another candidate for the Silly Season Hero of the year right here. The ink is still fresh on Bassey’s new guaranteed deal and he’s back from the G League and ready to wreak havoc. In just 15.3 minutes per game over his last four, Bassey is already inside the top-150 in 9-cat with 8.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.5 blocks and 0.3 triples. Can you imagine what this guy is going to do to your opponents when he’s getting full workloads? You’ve been warned.
Will there be a Waiver Wired for week 21? Many thanks for all you do, Jonas!
